WHAT CAN BUSINESS WATCH MEMBERS DO TO ASSIST THE PARTNERSHIP
The following is a guide on how the
members can help to protect themselves,
the business, employees and
neighbouring businesses from becoming
victims of crime.
- Regularly review your procedures to
ensure that your property is
properly protected.
- Train your staff.
- Ensure that visitors to your
premises are monitored.
- Encourage employees to challenge
strangers on your premises.
- Be on the look out for unusual or
suspicious activities and contact
Knowsley Business Watch. (see
further information section for who
to contact).
- Pass on to the Business Watch
Manager or the Police accurate
details of the suspicious or the
unusual (see further information
section for who to contact). Please
aim to provide full information
e.g. number of people, descriptions
of people and vehicles involved).
Don’t be put off if you think it may
be trivial or unimportant. JUST DO
IT!
- Encourage your Neighbourhood Beat
Officer to visit your premises
regularly.
- Establish regular contact with your
neighbours. They can help protect
your premises, just as you can help
to protect theirs. Share with them
warnings or information relating to
crime received from the police.
- Encourage your employees to be
vigilant and aware of what is going
on about them. Encourage them to
report the unusual. Involve them in
aspects of security.
- Ensure that information on crimes or
criminal activities, received from
the Policies is effectively used.
Have a procedure for sharing this
information with those who need to
know and who can be your eyes and
ears.
- Take advantage of specialist advice
or help available to you. Business
Watch will conduct a free survey of
your premises and give expert advice
on crime prevention (see further
information section for who to
contact).
- Encourage your staff to be security
minded – both at work and at home.
- Report damage to street lighting. It
makes sense to ensure that prompt
repairs are executed. Please visit:
http://www.knowsley.gov.uk/contract/
lighting/index.html for details on
how to report street light
faults/problems.
- If in doubt contact Knowsley
Business Watch on 0151 477 4024.
- BUT REMEMBER: The Business Watch
scheme does not replace the 999
emergency call procedure.
